since i made a picture for fidgit, i had to make a picture for iggy. he asked for it yesterday, but i didn’t want to do two humpback whale pictures in a row. he asked for a humpback whale playing with a squid. i jokingly asked, “wrestling?” since whales & squid can be known to fight to the death (but that might be sperm whales?) he said yes to the wrestling picture, but after starting the picture, i thought hide & go seek would work better.
colorful, right? what’s up with me & all the color? i might be tapping into my more vibrant inner artist. i have this set of dr. ph. martin color inks that i have barely used after impulse buying them…and now i am getting some time to play with them.
i got the paper wet. dripped ink. let it dry. then i drew what i saw. then i added a little more ink. then one more inking just to be safe.
i like it. so vibrant. i keep thinking someone else did it.
oh, and here is misha’s inktober contribution. poppy’s contribution is all over the carpet. oops! supervision with the ink, mama. (at least it was my cheap ink & not my new ink)
i did finish in class today. just the second of a seven picture series though…due tuesday. ay, i do love the pressure of a deadline! i am doing one more like this one, in yellow, featuring simon starbuckle the third (my six year old loves saying this name over and over again.) then on to the character profile watercolors. i’m thinking they will be a simple ink drawing with a couple of props to establish character & some splashes of watercolor. now if only the baby would sleep for more than a half an hour at a time!
being sparse with setting & background, this one was a challenge for me. you can probably tell i am not great at doing city scapes, but considering i don’t usually do them, it’s not half bad…right? my nine year old tells me that this is the best sperm whale he has seen other than actual photos of sperm whales–even though he thinks my blowhole is a bit off.
i like it. i’m very happy with it. especially bluejean (who some may notice looks a bit like moses jones)–that’s not a coincidence or a statement on the artist’s inability to draw different faces. bluejean, like moses jones, is a character based on some of me.(portrait of the artist as a very tired mama)
battling cats, infants, and toddlers, i have been working on this painting for my watercolor final. a second story board for trials of the moonfish. this is my second attempt on this particular painting. in the first, i made bluejean’s head too big, madam buttons’s sweater too bulky, the moonfish too chunky, the sperm whale ALL wrong, and there was too much color. i should get this version done today in class–where there are no curious cats or snotty babies with grabby hands.
this is the last installment i have made. i have some script written. but it may be a bit. hopefully not, but i do have 4 kids…& i am a half-time undergrad. nonetheless, reading these again makes me want to keep going. they make me laugh. hopefully you don’t have to have lived in a cooperative house to enjoy the silliness of house meetings, etc.
i really like these & find them really funny because i lived through them in an actual cooperative house. cooperative living is funny in a really frustrating way for me. i started this storyline, but, unfortunately only have 3 pages of it written. after posting it here & reading it again & getting re-acquainted with some of my characters–i would like to get back into writing this comic. i hope i can find the time & energy to do so. the artwork is a bit less demanding than moses jones & the storyline is a bit more developed, so i might be able to pump it out a bit quicker.
so i started this comic to work out some of my angst whilst living in a cooperative house…turns out a person like me should not live amongst (i am going to keep using st words if i can) a bunch of people with vastly different morals than my own…. so i started writing this comic, and i really like it & would love to move forth with it, but like everything else in my life, i am being conspired against by four little people whose motives i have not yet figured out.
anyhoo, here i will post the first several pages & should there be an outcry of folks just needing more–i would require a bit of grant money to hire a personal assistant so that i have a free hand to create something other than children–but i would love to one day finish this series.
here it is…weener coop….
